Waisda-EFG video labeling game

Dear participant,

Thank you very much for taking part in this game! 

It is an experiment for Liliana Melgar's PhD research at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in collaboration with the Web and Media Group at VU University Amsterdam. It will take about 30 minutes of your time. The procedure is as follows:

You are kindly asked to play the Waisda-EFG video labeling game. It consists on entering as many tags (words, keywords) as you can while watching each of the videos we selected from the European Film Gateway. Each video is a film clip and lasts between 1:30 and 6 minutes (12 min. in total). There is also a questionnaire at the end of the game. Don't worry if you don't know anything about tagging or tagging games, reading the instructions below carefully before starting is enough. 

1. First open the Web page http://prestoprime.cs.vu.nl/efg. If possible, please use the Google Chrome web browser.

2. Please register yourself. You can use a fake email address and name, since you are not asked to confirm the registration. For the purposes of the study, we just need to connect the tags you entered with the questionnaire, that's why we will ask you to enter your username in the questionnaire, but both can still be anonymous.

3. Get familiar with the interface.

4. Start a game by selecting one of the videos. Take this into account:

• You will have 20 seconds to get ready before each video begins.
• The cursor will be placed in a small box below the video where you can start typing your tags. 
• Start typing when the video begins.
• Press "enter" for each tag (word) you type.
• You can use your mother tongue (if it is English, Spanish or Dutch), otherwise, please use English.
• You score 5 points for each tag you enter and 50 points for tags that are also entered by other users.
• You can see immediate feedback (your scores) on the right side of the screen.
• Please, play the game with all videos, only once per video. The videos cannot be paused or played again.
• Don't forget to activate the sound in your computer.

5. If the video you just finished was not your last video, please go back to the homepage by selecting the EFG logo on the top left. And play a new video. Do like this until you complete all the videos.

6. If the video you just played was your last video, you can go to the "Questionnaire" link on the bottom left corner. You can also find the link here: http://surveys.timelessfuture.com/waisda-efg. You can answer the questions in the questionnaire using your mother tongue (if it is English, Spanish or Dutch), otherwise, please use English. The questionnaire is anonymous.

Muchas gracias por aceptar tomar parte en este juego!

Es un experimento que hace parte de mi investigación de doctorado, la cual realizo en la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, con el apoyo de la Universidad Libre de Ámsterdam (VU).

En total te llevará cerca de 30 minutos. El procedimiento es el siguiente:

Tu participación consiste en jugar el "Waisda-EFG labeling game". Éste consiste en entrar etiquetas (palabras o palabras clave), tantas como sea posible, a los videos que hemos seleccionado del European Film Gateway. Cada vídeo es un clip de una película, y dura entre 1:30 segundos y 6 minutos (son 12 minutos en total). Después de etiquetar los vídeos, te solicitamos por favor rellenar un cuestionario. No te preocupes si no sabes nada previamente acerca de etiquetas o labeling games, leer en detalle las instrucciones a continuación será suficiente:

1. Para comenzar, abre la página http://prestoprime.cs.vu.nl/efg (preferiblemente con el navegador Google Chrome)

2. Por favor regístrate tú mismo (puedes usar una dirección de correo electrónica y un nombre falsos, pues el sistema no te obliga a confirmarlos). Para cumplir los objetivos del estudio, debemos vincular tu nombre de usuario con el cuestionario, por lo cuál se te pedirá allí entrarlo allí. Sin embargo, ambos (tus etiquetas y el cuestionario) pueden ser anónimos.

3. Échale un ojo a la interfaz para ver en qué consiste.

4. Comienza el juego seleccionando cualquiera de los vídeos. Ten esto en cuenta:

• Tendrás 20 segundos para prepararte antes de que el vídeo comience.
• El cursor se posicionará debajo del vídeo justo cuando éste empiece, con lo cuál podrás empezar a digitar las etiquetas desde los primeros segundos.
• Empieza a entrar la primera etiqueta y presiona "enter" cada que desees entrar otra.
• Recuerda que puedes usar tu propio idioma (si es inglés, español u holandés), de lo contrario, por favor utiliza inglés.
• Cada que entras una etiqueta anotas 5 puntos, y cada que entras una etiqueta que coincide con la de otro jugador (en un lapso de 10 segundos), anotas 50 puntos.
• Puedes ver tus etiquetas y puntos de inmediato, en el cuadro derecho de la pantalla.
• Por favor etiqueta los vídeos que aparecen, pero sólo una vez por cada vídeo. Estos no se pueden pausar o ver de nuevo.
• No olvides activar el sonido de tu ordenador.

5. Si el vídeo que has visto no es el último, por favor regresa a la página principal, haciendo click en el logo (EFG) en la parte izquierda superior, para continuar con otro vídeo.

6. Si el vídeo que has visto es el último, por favor has click en el enlace al cuestionario que aparece en la página de los resultados. También puedes usar este enlace: http://surveys.timelessfuture.com/waisda-efg. Pedimos disculpas pues las preguntas están sólo en inglés, pero puedes responderlas usando tu propio idioma (español) o en inglés u holandés. El cuestionario es anónimo.
